Bioplastics

plastic-recycling

What?

This looks like regular plastics but is derived from plants or other biological materials rather than petroleum.

Where?

Like regular plastics these should be placed in you recycle bin; clean, dry and loose

Why?

While these plastics are made from biological materials the molecule structure is very similar to petroleum based plastics, long chains of polymers which do not break down naturally.

General Comment / Tip

There is a lot of confusion caused as many believe that the word “bio” can mean that it will breakdown in nature or when composted but this is not the case. Only packaging that is certified as compostable should be placed in you food waste bin [brown bin]. You might some information coming from other European countries which can cause a lot of confusion as the term “bio” can mean organic, be aware of the English definition of the word
